NPA Level 5 Barbering
Course Description
The NPA Level 5 Barbering course is delivered by our partners AM Barbers and supported by the Wellbeing Hub. The course introduces pupils to the core practical and professional skills needed for entry‑level work in the barbering industry. Learners study health and safety, client care and basic hair theory while developing hands‑on techniques such as shampooing, clipper work, scissor‑over‑comb, beard trimming and creating simple barbered looks. Pupils practise on peers or training heads, follow salon standards and complete practical assessments that build confidence and prepare them for progression into further barbering or hairdressing training.

NPA Level 5 Make up and Eye Treatment
Course Description
NPA Level 5 Make up and Eye Treatment is ran by our partners Professional Salon Training and supported by Wellbeing Hub. The course teaches pupils core beauty skills, skin preparation, day and evening make‑up, basic corrective techniques, brow shaping, lash and brow tinting and applying strip or cluster lashes. Learners practise on peers, follow salon standards and build confidence through hands‑on assessments.

JET 4 periods
Qualification Level 4 Employability Award
Course Description The course is split into 2 areas; Level 4 Employability and placement. The Employability Award is delivered in school for two periods per week by the Wellbeing Hub. Placements are sourced with support by family or family networks. When a placement starts they will take place every Friday. Pupils will be expected to self-travel to placement and may have to attend for a full day.

In addition to the subjects which you can study at The Royal High School, we also work closely with Edinburgh College to offer a wide range of courses which are planned into your curriculum.
